West Newton Bridge to be restored in 2008

Downtown West Newton, Inc. manages the town’s Main Street Program and is leading the efforts to restore the historic downtown and increase tourism through riverfront development by connecting West Newton with the Great Allegheny Passage. DWNI recently restored the historic Cornerstone Building and is developing a “town square” at the West Newton Bridge along Main Street.

The West Newton Business Roundtable shares in DWNI’s vision of connecting the trail and town, and meets regularly to encourage active business participation, cooperative marketing and Trail Town development.

The Westmoreland Yough Trail Council is the local trail chapter that maintains the West Newton section of the Great Allegheny Passage. The Regional Trail Corporation, which leads trail-building and advocacy efforts throughout southwestern Pennsylvania, operates out of the West Newton Visitor Center.
