Building a Future on a Proud Past

Located at Mile 43 between Meyersdale and Confluence,
Rockwood is a
charming trailside community that marked its 150th birthday in 2007.
Rockwood’s history is rooted in the lumber and feed industries and
railroading. Annual events like the Rockwood River & Rails Festival
in June and neighboring New Centerville’s Farmers’ & Threshermen’s
Jubilee pay homage to both the area’s heritage and contemporary way
of life.
A local landmark – then and now – is the Rockwood Mill, recently
converted to
Rockwood Mill Shoppes and Opera House. The Mill
Shoppes draw bikers and visitors of nearby ski resorts, Seven
Springs and Hidden Valley.
Visitors to Rockwood also will find a bike shop, bed-and-breakfasts,
camping, and Rock City Café, serving the “best burger on the trail.”
Download the
Rockwood Trail Town brochure for a
complete listing of businesses.
So take some time and discover Rockwood. Stop in when using the
trail or visiting the Laurel Highlands. Check out the architecture
along Main Street or of any of the town’s five churches. Relax in
the 100-year-old Oak grove. Go antiquing at the Mill Shoppes. Stay
the night and visit nearby attractions.
For a detailed history of Rockwood, visit the Rockwood Area
Historical & Genealogical Society on Main Street or pick up the
Rockwood Sesquicentennial book at the Mill Shoppes.
