Where Mountains Touch Rivers
 |
Confluence draws its name from
its location
at the merging of the
Casselman and
Youghiogheny Rivers. |
Located at the merging of the Casselman and Youghiogheny Rivers and
Laurel Hill Creek, this tidy valley village gets its name from its
location. The town motto, “Where mountains touch rivers,” is a
fitting description, as Confluence is surrounded by some of the
highest mountains in Pennsylvania. Bordered to the south by
Youghiogheny River Lake and to the north by Ohiopyle State Park,
Confluence’s natural surroundings make for an especially pleasant
experience.
And if any town knows that “trails mean business” it’s
Confluence.
The first completed portion of the
Great Allegheny Passage (Ohiopyle to Ramcat, just outside of
Confluence) was completed in 1986. This stunning river edge path has
brought bicyclists into Confluence for over 20 years.
Bikers who cross the over the Youghiogheny River will find shaded
streets and the landmark
River’s Edge Café. They cross a second pedestrian bridge
over the Casselman River and discover a classic mid-mountain town
complete with a town square and Victorian gazebo. Annual events like
Pumpkin Fest and Old Home Days, and a summer concert series add to
the town’s charm.
